Case Study: COSMOTE TELEKOM delivers premium 5G WiFi connectivity in remote Greece with Ericsson

A Ericsson Case Study

OTE brings 300 Mbps 5G WiFi to 19,500 students with Ericsson

The customer, COSMOTE TELEKOM (a subsidiary of OTE), faced the challenge of providing reliable, high-speed internet across Greece's diverse and challenging geography, where deploying fiber optic cables to remote areas, mountains, and islands was often unfeasible. This connectivity gap risked widening social and economic disparities. Partnering with vendor Ericsson, they sought a scalable solution to deliver premium connectivity.

Ericsson implemented a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service, COSMOTE 5G WiFi, powered by its 5G Radio and Core capabilities on a 5G Standalone network. This solution utilized network slicing to guarantee consistent, high-quality performance, delivering fiber-like internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps without wires. The results were significant, with over 65,000 subscribers by Q1 2026. The service also had a major social impact, bringing high-speed internet to 600 remote schools and benefiting 19,500 students.
