Case Study: Orange Guinea Conakry expands mobile coverage with Ericsson’s solar-powered RBS 2111

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Orange Cyberdefense Case Study

Orange Guinea Conakry utilizes renewable energy to expand and enhance its mobile network

Orange Guinea Conakry, a mobile operator in Guinea Conakry, needed to expand network coverage in a market with strong growth potential but very limited electrical infrastructure. The lack of a reliable power grid made it difficult to deploy and operate mobile base stations, while the company also wanted to reduce operating costs. Ericsson provided the RBS 2111 as part of the network rollout.

Ericsson implemented low-energy, solar-powered RBS 2111 base stations integrated with batteries and, where needed, diesel generators to ensure 24-hour operation. The solution was easy to install, required minimal maintenance, and cut power consumption by about half, helping Orange Guinea Conakry expand quickly and cost-effectively. As a result, the operator reached the number two market position in just six months and reduced its environmental impact.
