Optimus, Portugal launches unique IMS-based application for converged services

Optimus, a major Portuguese telecom operator, wanted to strengthen its brand and grow market share in the youth segment by offering a more innovative, converged communications experience. To do this, Optimus partnered with Ericsson on a new IMS-based service, TAG, which combined mobile and PC communications under a single monthly package.

Ericsson delivered and integrated the IMS architecture and multimedia telephony solution that enabled TAG’s seamless mobile-to-PC experience, including voice, SMS, MMS, video calls, messaging and voicemail. The service was a strong success, with about 40% of users connecting daily, and it gave Optimus a distinctive offering that improved market position and created a reusable foundation for future services.
