O2 Ireland and Ericsson complete large scale transformation project

O2 Ireland, a leading mobile services provider in Ireland, wanted to strengthen its position in a competitive market by launching high-speed mobile broadband while also reducing opex and capex, eliminating interoperability issues, and improving network quality. To achieve this, O2 Ireland partnered with Ericsson on a major network transformation project, including 2G and 3G access and core modernization.

Ericsson delivered a full-service broadband solution and completed a 100% live network swap-out of 2,500 base stations and the 2G/3G core, while accelerating the 3G rollout to meet regulatory obligations. The result was a future-proof, all-Ericsson network that maintained service throughout the transition, improved competitive positioning, and gave O2 Ireland DSL-comparable mobile broadband speeds and better service quality.
