Case Study: Nawras improves network capacity with Ericsson’s all-IP GSM Packet Abis solution

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Nawras Case Study

Nawras significantly improves capacity on its network in Oman with Ericsson's GSM Packet Abis solution

Nawras, the Omani telecom operator, was quickly running out of capacity in its metro area radio access network backhaul as traffic grew and the company moved toward an all-IP network. To address increasing backhaul needs, improve network efficiency, and reduce opex, Nawras turned to Ericsson and its GSM Packet Abis solution, along with support for backhaul modernization.

Ericsson implemented a GSM Packet Abis solution with Satellite Backhaul and MINI-LINK microwave transmission to introduce IP into both the backhaul and radio access network nodes. The result was greater capacity for growth, cost-effective remote coverage, and an improved competitive position, while also marking Nawras’s first step toward an all-IP network.
