Meditel Morocco evolves its packet backbone network to provide multiservice capabilities

Meditel, Morocco’s second-largest mobile operator, needed to evolve its packet mobile backbone network (MPBN) to support more services and better serve corporate and enterprise customers. Working with Ericsson, Meditel aimed to modernize its existing infrastructure rather than replace it, while ensuring a smooth migration with no network disruption.

Ericsson upgraded the MPBN infrastructure with professional services including project management, design, systems integration, acceptance, and migration support. The result was a converged, multiservice network supporting new fixed-line offerings such as VPLS and multicast services, enabling Meditel to maximize existing assets, reduce capex and opex compared with a new build, and create new revenue opportunities with a modest investment.
