Case Study: Hydro One Telecom improves grid reliability with Ericsson OSS

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Hydro One Telecom Case Study

Hydro One Telecom enhances its power grid reliability through advanced communications network management

Hydro One Telecom, a Canadian subsidiary of Hydro One, needed a better way to manage its expanding telecommunications network to support grid reliability, commercial services, and SLA compliance. The company’s existing inventory tools were inaccurate and unreliable, making it difficult to quickly identify network issues and their impact on power system elements. Ericsson provided the communications network management foundation, including Granite Inventory, Network Engineer, and COMMON LANGUAGE® services.

Ericsson implemented a centralized “book of record” for Hydro One Telecom’s multi-vendor, multi-technology network, with deployment support, data migration, and user training. The solution improved asset tracking, network visualization, and automation for outage analysis and provisioning, reducing power line service impact assessment time from hours to less than a minute. Ericsson’s platform also helped Hydro One Telecom use network capacity more efficiently and support year-on-year growth in commercial services.
