A Ericsson Case Study
Hudiksvall Municipality in Sweden wanted to improve communication for all residents and support future growth, but low population density made it difficult for commercial operators to offer competitive broadband services. Ericsson was selected to help the municipality move to an open access, fiber-to-the-home broadband model that would allow users to choose services from the provider of their choice.
Ericsson implemented and managed an open fiber broadband solution using EDA 1200 fiber-access switches, SmartEdge Multi-Service Edge Routers, and core network products under a seven-year managed services agreement. The solution expanded and refreshed the city network, increased choice and competition, and created an operator-neutral infrastructure designed to support high-speed services like IPTV and video-on-demand, while strengthening social and economic development in Hudiksvall.
