Case Study: Net 1 achieves reliable rural machine-to-machine connectivity with Ericsson CDMA network modernization

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Net 1 Case Study

Geography is no barrier as small operator Net 1 makes a big impression in bringing machine-to-machine connectivity to rural and remote industries

Net 1, the Scandinavian niche operator serving rural Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, needed to overcome the challenges of extreme terrain, wide coverage gaps, and rising demand for secure machine-to-machine connectivity. Working with Ericsson, it aimed to modernize its CDMA 450MHz network to improve quality, capacity, and support for enterprise customers in remote industries.

Ericsson delivered a complete CDMA network modernization, including replacement of 400 base stations, EVDO Rev B, Voice over IP with Quality of Service, and rollout/optimization services. The new network of about 800 base stations now covers more than 90% of Denmark, Sweden, and Norway—over 790,000 sq km—while improving reliability, data throughput, and enabling advanced services, with measurable opex benefits from a single-vendor network and fewer base stations.
