Case Study: Vivo expands coverage and mobile broadband with Ericsson

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Vivo Case Study

Ericsson and Vivo work together on network optimization in São Paulo, providing a better service to users

Vivo, one of Brazil’s leading mobile operators, needed to increase market share, speed up time-to-market, and future-proof its network in a highly competitive and fast-growing market. Working with Ericsson, Vivo began with a GSM overlay to improve voice coverage and capacity, then moved toward 3G/WCDMA readiness.

Ericsson implemented a nationwide WCDMA/HSPA network, mobile backhaul, opto and transport solutions, the Ericsson Multi Activation System (EMA), and managed services including network rollout, support, field maintenance, and systems integration. The result was a broader service offering, new revenue streams, and expanded rural coverage, including remote Amazon cities; Vivo also became the first mobile operator in Latin America with uplink speeds of up to 5.8 Mbps and was rated Brazil’s best network for quality by Anatel.
