Case Study: Telkomsel expands rural coverage and cuts OPEX with Ericsson solar-powered network solution

A Ericsson Case Study

Preview of the Telkomsel Case Study

Ericsson and Telkomsel take an innovative approach to network optimization by understanding app coverage rather than traditional KPIs

Telkomsel, Indonesia’s market-leading telecom operator with a 54% market share, wanted to keep expanding coverage ahead of competitors while reducing OPEX as it rolled out service to rural and remote areas. Ericsson supported this challenge with a solar-powered site solution built around the RBS 2111 base station, MINI-LINK™, and integrated power system.

Ericsson delivered and installed the full site, including a 100% solar-driven setup designed for easy rollout and minimal maintenance. The solution used 60% less power than ordinary macro base stations and was expected to cut OPEX by up to 40%, helping Telkomsel extend coverage outside the power grid while keeping costs and energy consumption low.
