A Ericsson Case Study
E-kakashi, a Japanese agricultural IoT platform developed by PS Solutions with Softbank and CKD Corporation, wanted to help farmers modernize crop cultivation in an industry still driven by experience and manual judgment. The challenge was to provide an easy-to-use IoT solution that could monitor growing conditions scientifically and make advanced automation accessible to small and aging farming operations. Ericsson IoT Accelerator was used to support the platform’s device onboarding and data management.
Ericsson helped power the e-kakashi solution with a cloud-based IoT platform using LwM2M and Zero Touch Onboarding, enabling fast connection and management of agricultural equipment over Softbank’s NB-IoT network. The system uses sensors and AI to monitor temperature, humidity, and soil conditions, then automatically adjusts irrigation, fertilization, and greenhouse ventilation while allowing farmers to fine-tune settings via app, tablet, or computer. The result was a scalable, low-barrier IoT service for growers of any size, helping make agriculture more efficient and data-driven while also creating new revenue opportunities for network operators.
