A Ericsson Case Study
Beijing Netcom, a branch of China Netcom and the exclusive fixed-line telecommunications partner for the 2008 Olympic Games, needed to create a high-impact digital communications experience across 48 venues in multiple Chinese cities. The challenge was to increase network efficiency, support value-added services, and enhance internal communications in time for the Games. Ericsson provided an IMS-based Command Supporting System (CSS) to meet these needs.
Ericsson implemented a tailored IMS solution with six key features, including multimedia conferencing, call center, group address book, simultaneous ringing, presence, and document sharing, acting as Prime Integrator to ensure smooth systems integration. The result was a converged data, speech, and video communications platform that improved operations for Olympic support staff and introduced video communication into Beijing Netcom’s daily operations for the first time. Ericsson’s solution helped Beijing Netcom support a large-scale event successfully and left it with future-proof technology and a stronger position for multimedia services going forward.
