Cradlepoint Provides Controlled Wireless Access to Crew of USS Enterprise
The USS Enterprise (CVN-65) faced a critical connectivity problem when nearly 300 crew members were housed on a berthing barge with Internet delivered over a T‑1 line that produced effective speeds measured in kilobytes, hampering work and morale. To address the need for faster, controlled access, the Navy engaged Cradlepoint and deployed Cradlepoint NetCloud Service for Mobile for routing, WiFi-as‑WAN, GPS/telematics integration, and cloud configuration and troubleshooting.
Cradlepoint, working with Verizon, Wifi‑soft Solutions and partner 4K Solutions, installed cloud‑managed LTE routers (NetCloud Service for Mobile) with built‑in authentication, URL controls, 24x7 support and rapid remote management. The solution delivered a much faster, 24/7 connection to Internet and commercial email, enabled crew to complete work during work hours, improved morale, simplified administration with group firmware updates and remote configuration, and met the Navy’s security requirements through Cradlepoint’s cloud access controls and Tier III SSAE II hosting.
