Case Study: South Gloucestershire Council achieves centralised, resilient BYOD and mobile access for 115 schools with Ericom Software

A Ericom Software Case Study

Preview of the South Gloucestershire Council Case Study

South Gloucestershire Council delivers innovative IT services to over 100 schools

South Gloucestershire Council provides centralised IT services for 115 schools across 130 sites, supporting roughly 48,000 users (about 45,000 pupils and 3,000 staff). The council faced the challenge of consolidating applications, file storage and services, delivering consistent high performance and remote access (including mobile access to the SIMS management information system), and enabling BYOD and home-based learning. To meet these needs it selected Ericom Software and deployed Ericom® Remote Access as a centrally managed access solution.

Ericom Software implemented a county‑wide, centrally delivered access platform that streams applications and data to schools, enables secure BYOD and mobile SIMS access, and supports remote and home‑based learning. The deployment delivered measurable benefits: reduced software/hardware costs through centralisation, resilient and reliable service even during local disasters, secure remote access from any device, and operational efficiency—just 16 IT staff now manage infrastructure for ~48,000 users across 130 sites—while uptake by school leadership was strong.
