Roto-Rooter, a large plumbing and drain service provider, needed to give dispatchers simple, Windows-based access to multiple AS/400 “green screen” inquiry screens without rebuilding hundreds of legacy applications or interrupting daily operations. To meet that challenge the company selected Ericom Software’s PowerTerm Pro terminal-emulation/host-access solution to bridge new Windows applications with existing AS/400 systems.

Ericom Software implemented PowerTerm Pro as middleware, using its scripting and GUI features to automate logins, turn function-key workflows into point-and-click buttons, and present green screens inside a Windows interface. The solution was set up in four days and is in use by dispatchers in Cincinnati, Memphis and Chicago, enabling a phased migration with no system-wide downtime, faster dispatching, reduced time/cost/risk, and plans to roll the Ericom Software deployment out to additional call centers.
