Jackson School District Reduces Costs by 40 Percent After Replacing Citrix with Ericom's Remote Access Solution

Jackson School District, a Central New Jersey K–12 district serving 10,000 students across 10 schools with 1,000 teachers, struggled with a complex, costly Citrix deployment that strained a small IT staff and shrinking budgets. The district needed a simple, clientless, browser-based way to give teachers, staff and students secure remote access to Windows applications and desktops across PCs, Macs and Chromebooks to support BYOD, and evaluated solutions such as Ericom Software’s PowerTerm WebConnect and AccessNow.

Working with reseller Boxed Network Environment, Jackson replaced Citrix with a hosted Ericom Software solution—Ericom PowerTerm WebConnect and Ericom AccessNow—delivering HTML5 browser access with no client installs. The Ericom deployment cut costs by 40% by eliminating on‑prem infrastructure and endpoint maintenance, doubled the usable life of roughly 3,000 desktops (extending lifespans to as much as seven years), reduced support overhead so IT could focus on priority projects, and enabled expanded Chromebook and BYOD use; the district plans to increase concurrent PowerTerm WebConnect licenses from 100 to 250.
