Ericom AccessNow and Chromebooks Enable One–to–One Computing in Lynchburg City Schools

Lynchburg City Schools needed a cost-effective one-to-one computing solution to give more than 8,000 students classroom access to statewide testing and Microsoft applications, but their chosen HP Chromebooks could not run Pearson’s TestNav because it required Java. To solve that gap, Lynchburg turned to Ericom Software and its Ericom AccessNow remote access technology to enable Chromebooks to reach Windows and web-based applications.

Ericom Software deployed AccessNow using Lynchburg’s existing servers (three physical servers converted into 15 virtual servers) and a custom kiosk app, allowing full rollout to ninth graders in three days. The solution now supports nearly 4,000 Chromebooks with over 500 concurrent users, lets students spend up to 70% of SOL testing time on Chromebooks with secure, near-zero-latency access, reduced stress on the seven-person IT team, and enabled plans to expand AccessNow district-wide (with potential future use of Ericom Connect).
