Cumbria County Council - Customer Case Study

Cumbria County Council, served by Cumbria Information Systems, needed a web-based emulation solution to deliver host applications across one of England’s largest counties after migrating to a Sun Solaris E5500 server. To replace a proprietary emulator that was incompatible with the new platform, the Council selected Ericom Software’s PowerTerm WebConnect to provide consistent, browser-based access for staff.

Ericom Software installed PowerTerm WebConnect on the central Sun Solaris server, enabling about 450 users to access applications via a URL with no desktop installs, centralizing management and reducing on-site desktop support and travel. The deployment delivered better control, easier configuration, lower costs and faster issue resolution—Ericom Software’s support even helped resolve an initial server bottleneck the same day—freeing IT to focus on application development and service delivery.
