Audi improves automated driving acceptance with Ergosign in a study of 32 participants

Audi, a leader in automotive technology, faced the challenge of designing the interaction between drivers and vehicles during semi-automated and automated driving. Their goal was to ensure drivers remained in control and felt supported, especially during their initial experiences with this new technology. To address this, Audi partnered with vendor Ergosign GmbH for a project involving concept development, UX design, and usability testing to create a support and feedback concept.

Ergosign GmbH designed and prototypically implemented a multimodal digital tutor system that distributed information across the instrument cluster, central console, and head-up display, complemented by auditory signals and voice instructions. The solution was evaluated in an empirical study with 32 participants, where an experimental group using the tutor was compared to a control group. The study proved the concept successful, showing that Ergosign's tutor provided valuable assistance during initial automated driving interactions and increased acceptance towards automated vehicles.
