Wing On, one of Hong Kong’s oldest retailers with over 110 years of history, embarked on a three-year digital transformation beginning in 2015 to modernize core systems (ERP, POS) and launch new customer services like Wing On Rewards. A cloud-first move for a key internal application caused intermittent connectivity and performance problems, and the scale of the new rewards program exposed limitations in enterprise cloud access and stability.
Wing On adopted a hybrid cloud architecture with Equinix—hosting internal systems in an Equinix IBX and connecting customer-facing apps via Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric to multiple public clouds. The result was improved uptime and lower latency, seamless POS-and-rewards integration, the successful April 2018 launch of Wing On Rewards, and more than 60% overall cost savings, while gaining scalability and access to a broad partner ecosystem.
