A Equinix Case Study
Stadler, a Swiss maker of customized trains with over 13,000 employees and 9,500+ vehicles sold, faced unreliable local data centers and climate‑related risks that hindered sharing business‑critical apps (SAP, Exchange, manufacturing systems) across its global sites. The distributed model limited scalability, network flexibility and fast access to cloud and partner services, so Stadler needed a more resilient, interconnected platform to accelerate digital transformation and expand production of tailor‑made trains.
Stadler consolidated its infrastructure into two Equinix IBX data centers in Zurich with an active/active dark‑fiber ring, real‑time virtualization mirroring, on‑site Equinix Smart Hands and software‑defined interconnection options. The move raised uptime from 99.00% to 99.99% with no outages, increased on‑demand bandwidth and power capacity by 10x (to 200 kWh), doubled hardware footprint, improved security and sustainability, and sped digital adoption—enabling faster customization, better user satisfaction and a clear on‑ramp to cloud services for global expansion.
