Orion Engineered Carbons - Customer Case Study

Orion Engineered Carbons (OEC) is a global carbon black manufacturer with headquarters in Luxembourg and operational HQ in Frankfurt, serving customers in 80 countries from 14 production plants. OEC faced a fragmented, multi-vendor IT estate with aging hardware, high managed‑service fees and single‑site dependencies (for example, email), resulting in frequent outages, performance issues and elevated compliance risk (SOX).

OEC centralized and consolidated its IT into three Equinix IBX data centers (Frankfurt, Dallas and Hong Kong), adopting a hybrid‑cloud model and an Interconnection Oriented Architecture on Platform Equinix. The move created regional redundancy and faster cloud connectivity, enabled rapid failover during incidents, and improved service performance tenfold. It also reduced total cost of ownership by about 50%, strengthened compliance and scaled easier for future cloud migrations.
