Case Study: Medela achieves resilient, cost-saving global IT and robust disaster recovery with Equinix colocation

A Equinix Case Study

Preview of the Medela Case Study

Medela transforms infrastructure with interconnection at the digital edge

Medela, a Swiss medical-technology company best known for breast pumps and medical vacuum systems, supports subsidiaries in 19 countries from centralized IT in Switzerland. Its on‑premises computer rooms—located just 200 meters apart and vulnerable to flooding—left the company exposed to downtime and prevented an effective disaster‑recovery strategy, while upgrading power and cooling in its aging facilities would have required significant capital investment.

After an RFP, Medela chose Equinix and migrated 98% of its equipment into two geo‑diverse Equinix IBX data centers in Zurich, with an approved partner now managing four high‑density racks, network devices and about 250 virtual servers on Platform Equinix. The move was completed with no downtime and delivered redundant, highly available infrastructure, lower capital expense, 24/7 security, scalability for growth, and a robust foundation for global interconnection and future consolidation of ERP/SAP systems.
