A Equinix Case Study
Hess Corporation, a global independent energy company, decided in 2013 to divest its downstream businesses and needed to separate and deliver a fully operational IT environment to the buyer on a tight timeline. Hess IT faced the challenge of moving hundreds of legacy systems and data to a transferable platform quickly, securely and without time to redesign applications.
Working with Equinix Professional Services for Cloud, Hess chose AWS and migrated about 300 servers using VPC, Direct Connect, EC2/EBS storage (≈500 TB), snapshots to S3/Glacier, CloudWatch monitoring and virtualized appliances. The cloud-first approach enabled rapid provisioning and cloning of environments, delivered production on AWS in January 2014 and completed the handoff in February — a six-month project that cut deployment time in half, minimized security risk with MFA and demonstrated a scalable model for future cloud adoption.
