A Equinix Case Study
Atomised Co‑operative is a small software development co‑op based in Cupar, Scotland, founded in 2008 to build web and mobile solutions. The team developed a U.K. rail journey planner and ticket‑issuing system with split‑ticketing capabilities but hit a roadblock: the UK National Reservations System (NRS) requires a physical network connection managed by a Network Service Provider, while Atomised’s infrastructure was cloud‑only.
Equinix stepped in to bridge cloud and physical networks by deploying a managed virtual firewall in its LD9 London IBX and connecting Atomised’s Google Cloud environment to the rail industry’s CenturyLink network via Equinix Cloud Exchange Fabric. The managed solution delivered 24/7 reliability, simplified connectivity and day‑to‑day management, and provided the critical, cost‑effective link Atomised needed to complete the ticketing project.
