Equinix enables Yarra City Council to migrate IT infrastructure to the cloud

Yarra City Council, the local government for Victoria’s City of Yarra, was struggling with escalating IT costs and complexity from roughly 130 legacy systems housed in a small, risky in‑house data centre. Facing service delays and inefficiencies, the council launched a customer‑centric “cloud‑first” transformation to reduce operating risk, lower costs and improve how it delivers community services.

The council migrated its infrastructure into Equinix’s ME1 data centre and used Equinix Interconnect to connect to Office 365, Azure and cloud SaaS like Oracle Service Cloud, with a plan to retire all internal data centres. The move simplified IT, improved reliability and uptime, saved about AUD 1,300 a month in power/air‑conditioning costs, and dramatically increased agility—enabling service rollouts in hours rather than the eight months previously required—while providing a scalable, future‑proof hybrid cloud platform.
