Entertainment Technology Center - Customer Case Study

The Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at USC partnered with Equinix to evaluate EMCEE—a media-focused Interconnection Oriented Architecture built on Platform Equinix—because traditional cloud models struggle with media production’s huge, constantly changing files. ETC’s challenge was to coordinate large, asynchronous datasets across multiple partners without the variable performance, high egress fees and long setup times of internet-based VPNs and public cloud transfers.

Using neutral storage in Equinix Data Hubs plus private interconnection services (Performance Hub and Equinix Cloud Exchange) and the open-source C4 framework, the project created a hybrid workflow with private VLANs adjacent to cloud providers. The result was studio latency under 2 ms and cloud latency under 10 ms, an 80% reduction in cloud egress costs, faster throughput, lower bandwidth expenses and streamlined, pay-as-you-go production workflows.
