Avira, a market leader in antivirus and IT security, faced rising complexity and costs as it grew and relied increasingly on AWS cloud services. Seeking a future-proof, flexible solution with lower latency and better cost control, Avira chose to outsource its data center and required direct cloud connectivity (AWS Direct Connect) to replace VPN links and simplify operations.

Working with Equinix Platform and AWS Direct Connect, Avira completed an eight-month program (three months of migration) to consolidate and move services to a hybrid model. The project cut server count from 700 to 362, replaced VPNs with private connections, and shifted key workloads to the cloud—delivering roughly 50–60% lower latency, a 40% bandwidth improvement to AWS, simplified operations, and an estimated 50% reduction in operating costs.
