Avere and Equinix Redefine High Performance in Google Cloud Storage

Avere, a hybrid‑cloud storage company, partnered with Equinix and Google Cloud Platform to solve a common problem for media, life‑sciences and financial firms: cloud storage is cost‑effective but often too slow for high‑performance workloads like rendering, genomic analysis and financial simulations. These applications need high I/O, high throughput and low latency that public Internet access to cloud storage can’t reliably provide.

Avere deployed its FXT Edge filer at Equinix Cloud Exchange over a 10Gb connection to Google Cloud Storage, using edge caching and hybrid NAS integration to deliver local-fileserver performance to cloud‑hosted data. Tests showed constant 800 MB/s throughput (up to 10 Gb/s), average cached‑data latency of 0.2 ms, up to 28–48% faster transfers than the public Internet, roughly 24–43% fewer network hops, and up to 700x lower latency in some cases — enabling high‑performance applications to run directly against Google Cloud Storage.
