A Equinix Case Study
Aqua Comms, a Dublin‑based subsea cable operator that built the AEConnect transatlantic system linking New York, Dublin and London, needed a data center partner on both sides of the Atlantic that could deliver security, reliability, cost efficiency and the footprint to support planned U.S. and EMEA expansion. With the business depending on gateway access to sell capacity and connect customers, Aqua Comms evaluated providers for geographic reach, pricing and uptime before selecting a single operator to host both cable endpoints.
Aqua Comms deployed AEConnect into Equinix facilities (NY5, London‑Slough and Dublin), using a metro dark‑fiber solution that terminated the cable inside Equinix data centers and tied into Equinix’s global interconnection platform. The move enabled rapid provisioning, lower dark‑fiber costs versus market rates, reduced backhaul and latency by avoiding external landing stations, and instant access to new partners and markets—positioning Aqua Comms to scale capacity and expand services reliably.
