Shell, a global energy company operating in over 140 countries with more than 112,000 employees, needed to reduce costly paper and manual HR processes while improving employee services. Rather than a full immediate outsourcing, Shell chose to phase in targeted outsourced HR functions based on proven success.

Working with Equifax, Shell deployed Unemployment Cost Management, Employment Verifications, W-2 Management and Paperless Pay. Equifax removed more than $4 million in unemployment claims liability, recovered over $300,000 in state-charged errors (including $318,000 in overcharges), and helped save $770,041 in tax payments for the year. About 10,000 verification requests were halted, over 7,500 employees access W-2s online, and Shell estimates roughly $500,000 in annual savings from electronic payroll and reduced printing.
