How San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) transformed its legacy system for enhanced efficiency and data integration through a centralized, highly integrated IT platform

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) faced an inefficient, fragmented capital project management process spread across spreadsheets, Microsoft Project, Maximo and SAP that prevented reliable data sharing and multi‑year planning. To centralize project, space, asset and financial management, SDG&E turned to Eptura’s Archibus solutions, deploying Archibus Capital Budgeting and Project Management as the core of a new integrated IWMS.

Eptura delivered a phased implementation—including gap analysis, process reengineering, data mapping, customization to replace Microsoft Project, and SAP integration—so Archibus could provide bi‑directional data exchanges and unified reporting. The result was stronger cost/accounting control and normalized long‑range planning: annual capital budgets rose from $5–7M to over $40M in five years, SDG&E now carries $10–15M of active projects year‑to‑year, and reporting and project management accuracy materially improved.
