The customer, a large law firm, faced a challenge from the Canadian Competition Bureau for their client, which required a data collection, processing, hosting, and document review project in both English and French under a strict 30-day deadline. To meet this need, the law firm engaged Epiq for its document review services, drawing on prior experience with the vendor’s expertise in competition and antitrust matters.

Epiq implemented a solution that included creating an internal ethical wall to host data from both parties to the transaction. They used remote data collection, separate databases, and Continuous Active Learning (CAL) workflows. This approach successfully met the deadline despite pandemic disruptions and achieved a 75 to 88 percent reduction in documents using CAL analytics ahead of human review.
