Madison Lumber and Hardware, a True Value–affiliated lumber and building materials retailer in Ketchikan, Alaska founded in 1967, operates a $14M business and faced growing customer demand for gift cards. The company relied on paper gift certificates kept in a controlled location, which made sales slow or impossible when staff were unavailable and created cumbersome, manual tracking and reconciliation burdens.

In November 2009 Madison implemented the Epicor Eagle Gift Card solution integrated with their POS, enabling instant activation at the front counter and automated tracking of issuance and redemptions. The system was easy for cashiers to learn, improved customer service and reconciliation, and drove a threefold increase in dollars sold on gift cards—boosted by several high‑value card purchases (including 10 cards over $500 and one over $2,000).
