American Packaging Corporation - Customer Case Study

American Packaging, a San Leandro–based distributor of packaging products and equipment, faced severe inventory control problems that left warehouse accuracy at roughly 25 percent. The company—led by VP of Marketing Howard Edelman—was doing three to four full physical inventories a year, each requiring extensive preparation and counting, and struggled to meet customer expectations for order, fill and billing accuracy.

In 2001 American Packaging implemented Epicor Prophet 21 (on a scalable Microsoft SQL Server database), gaining fast drill-down access to sales history and an Item Master Inquiry that surfaces purchase orders, backorders, pricing and margins. The change boosted inventory accuracy to about 99 percent, reduced physical counts to a single annual cycle that takes roughly four hours, and materially improved customer service and billing accuracy.
