Case Study: Insulet Corporation achieves wireless, tube-free diabetes management with EPAM Systems' Omnipod solution

A EPAM Systems Case Study

Preview of the Insulet Corporation Case Study

Insulet Omnipod Management System

Insulet Corporation partnered with **EPAM Systems** (EPAM Continuum) as a three-person startup with an ambitious goal: to create a subtle, pain-free, cost-effective alternative to traditional insulin pumps. The challenge was to develop a wireless insulin patch that could be worn on the skin, automatically deliver metered doses of insulin, and be controlled through a handheld device—even though the underlying technology did not yet exist.

**EPAM Systems** helped Insulet design and bring to market the Omnipod Insulin Delivery System, a disposable insulin patch paired with a remote Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM). The result was the world’s first FDA-approved, wireless, tube-free insulin pump, now covered by many health insurance plans and sold in multiple countries. Omnipod helped transform Insulet from a startup into a publicly traded company with over 500 employees, raised $116 million in its 2007 IPO, and contributed to projected 2015 revenue of more than $280 million.
