Dangote Sugar Refinery improves sugar cane monitoring across 30,000 hectares with EOS

Dangote Sugar Refinery, a major sugar producer in Nigeria, faced challenges in monitoring its vast sugar cane plantations for threats like excess moisture and weed infestations. Manual scouting was difficult in remote areas, and imprecise irrigation or delayed weed detection risked significant yield loss. To address this, the company turned to EOS and its EOSDA Crop Monitoring platform.

The solution from EOS involved using satellite data analytics for regular assessment of field conditions via vegetation indices like NDVI and NDMI. This enabled timely detection of problem areas, guiding targeted scouting trips and corrective actions such as adjusting irrigation or planning weed control. The results included earlier detection of field gaps and moisture issues, improved visibility into all field locations, and more precise resource application, which helped increase potential yields and supported the adoption of sustainable precision agriculture practices.
