Brazilian Sugar Manufacturer boosts harvest monitoring accuracy to 97% with EOS

The customer, a Brazilian sugar manufacturer based in São Paulo State, faced the challenge of labor-intensive and high-cost manual field inspections for monitoring its sugarcane harvest. To overcome the coverage limitations of drone monitoring and the drawbacks of ground-based methods, the company engaged vendor EOS Data Analytics to develop a satellite-driven solution.

EOS Data Analytics implemented a solution using a combination of Sentinel-2 optical and Sentinel-1 radar satellite data, analyzed with custom algorithms and NDVI, to determine precise harvest dates and calculate harvested areas. The result was a digital map detailing the harvest status, dates, and area for 30 fields divided into 574 parcels. The solution achieved 97% accuracy with the optical-data algorithm and 90% with the combined radar-optical algorithm, providing the client with the actionable data needed to optimize logistics and scheduling.
