A EOS GmbH Case Study
Wittmann Robot Systeme GmbH, a manufacturer of robots and automation systems, faced the challenge of building a lightweight grip system with integrated functionality that was durable enough for over 5 million operating cycles. Their previous aluminum gripper was heavy, complex, and expensive. They partnered with vendor EOS GmbH and utilized EOS additive manufacturing technology, specifically a FORMIGA P 110 Velocis system, to address this.
The solution implemented by EOS involved a complete redesign that consolidated 21 individual components into just two 3D-printed parts from polyamide. This integrated the pneumatic ducts directly into the base plate. The results for Wittmann were an 86% reduction in weight, a 50% reduction in production costs, and a part that exceeded durability expectations in testing. EOS technology enabled a faster, lighter, and more cost-effective gripper that enhanced the customer's automation solutions.
