A EOS GmbH Case Study
Vocus GmbH, an aerospace supplier, faced challenges with a traditionally welded aircraft exhaust component that suffered from dimensional inconsistencies, stress concentrations, and a limited service life. To overcome these issues and meet stringent EASA certification requirements, Vocus collaborated with vendor EOS GmbH, utilizing their industrial metal additive manufacturing systems and EOS NickelAlloy IN718 material to re-engineer the part.
The solution involved reverse engineering the part via CT scanning, digitally optimizing its design for additive manufacturing, and producing it on an EOS system. This resulted in a weld-free, homogeneous component with an estimated service life ten times longer than the original. EOS's technology provided the process stability required for the certified production of the part, which successfully passed 55 hours of rigorous testing and received an EASA Supplemental Type Certificate.
