A EOS GmbH Case Study
The University of Michigan faced the challenge of creating life-saving, patient-specific implants for children with airway defects. To address this, they partnered with vendor EOS GmbH and utilized a FORMIGA P 110 3D printing system to produce highly customized, biocompatible splints.
EOS provided the solution with its flexible 3D printing technology, which allowed the university's researchers to customize material parameters and manufacture implants with a porous structure designed to expand with a child's growth. The results were highly successful, with the first patient now nearly four years old and breathing normally; the implant has been fully integrated and reabsorbed by the body. This EOS-enabled process drastically reduced production time, allowing for designs to be printed within just two days.
