Preview of the SSI Schäfer Case Study

SSI Schäfer cuts gripper setup times by 80% with EOS GmbH

SSI Schäfer, a specialist in modular storage and logistics systems, faced a challenge with the reliability and cost of extracting containers from its injection molding machines. Their existing universal aluminum gripper system required frequent, time-consuming adjustments and was prone to error, risking production shutdowns. They sought a more reliable and cost-effective solution with the support of vendor EOS GmbH.

EOS implemented a solution using additive manufacturing on an EOS P 396 system with PA 2200 material to produce custom, dedicated grippers for each container type. This integrated air ducts directly into the gripper design. The result was a 70% reduction in gripper weight, an 80% reduction in setup times, and a gain of approximately 120 hours of production time per year for SSI Schäfer, dramatically increasing reliability and productivity.
