Preview of the Equinor Case Study

Equinor reduces LNG measurement variability by over 50% with EOS GmbH

Equinor, a major energy company, required highly accurate and stable measurements for liquefied natural gas (LNG) custody transfer, but the performance of their conventional LNG vaporizers was limiting this accuracy. These traditional designs caused irregularities in vaporization, leading to drift in analytical readings that impacted the commercial value of LNG cargo. To overcome these thermodynamically sensitive limitations, they worked with vendor EOS GmbH.

EOS GmbH, along with a consortium, developed a generatively designed and additively manufactured vaporizer using their EOS M 400-4 system and AlSi10Mg material. This monolithic aluminium component featured optimized internal channels and integrated vacuum insulation. The solution reduced Gross Heating Value measurement variability by over 50% during field testing at Equinor's terminal, establishing a new benchmark for accuracy and reliability in LNG custody transfer.
