DHBW Engineering Stuttgart Team cuts battery airflow weight by 80% with EOS GmbH

The DHBW Engineering Stuttgart team, a Formula Student racing team, faced the challenge of designing an efficient and extremely lightweight cooling system for the battery housing in their electric race car, eSleek14. They partnered with vendor EOS GmbH, utilizing their EOS P 396 system and polyamide PA 2200 material to address this need.

EOS implemented an additive manufacturing solution, which provided the team with complete design freedom to create a complex airflow component with integrated cooling channels. This resulted in an 80% reduction in the component's weight, bringing it down to just 77 grams, and more than doubled the cooling performance compared to the previous year's vehicle.
