A EOS GmbH Case Study
Canto Ing. GmbH, in collaboration with THOR Offshore Engineering GmbH, faced the challenge of developing a robust locking mechanism for a professional dive light capable of withstanding depths of up to 200 meters. They needed a solution that would be durable, lightweight, and cost-effective to produce, especially for small batch sizes, without the high upfront cost of injection-molding tools.
Using additive manufacturing technology from EOS GmbH, specifically the FORMIGA P 110 system and PA 2200 polyamide material, the vendor produced the bayonet-fitting as a single, functionally integrated component. This solution eliminated the need for assembly by reducing three individual parts into one. EOS's approach saved an estimated €35,000 in tooling costs and €6.80 per unit in assembly costs, while resulting in a final product that weighs just 580 grams and meets all stringent quality requirements, leading to its adoption by European police and military special units.
