ArianeGroup cuts injector head costs by 50% with EOS GmbH

ArianeGroup, a joint venture of Airbus and Safran commissioned to build launch vehicles for the European Space Agency, faced the challenge of producing a complex injection head for a rocket engine. The traditional design consisted of 248 individual parts, which was a time-consuming, costly, and complex process that introduced potential weak points. They partnered with vendor EOS GmbH to find a solution using additive manufacturing.

EOS implemented a solution using their EOS M 400-4 industrial 3D printing system and EOS NickelAlloy IN718 material to produce the injector head as a single, integrated component. This eliminated the need for assembly and multiple manufacturing steps. The results were a 50% reduction in production costs, a reduction in iteration time from half a year to just a few days, and the integration of 247 parts into one. EOS's technology enabled a lighter, stronger design and a vastly simplified manufacturing chain.
