Envista Forensics was hired by a large international insurance carrier to investigate a server failure for their client, a regional distributor of automobile parts and tires. The distributor's system became inoperable shortly after terminating their IT vendor, and it was initially believed a virus was the cause of the failure.

Envista Forensics used digital forensics to image the server's hard drives and analyze the data. Their investigation revealed the former IT vendor had used their credentials to access the system via a VPN and deliberately deleted files and damaged the SQL database, which caused the failure. Envista provided this evidence to the FBI, enabling them to seize the suspect's equipment. This allowed the insurance carrier to provide funds to the insured for a portion of their loss.
