Anglo American reduces carbon liability by 5% with ERM

Anglo American faced the challenge of integrating safety and sustainable development (S&SD) into its existing Asset Optimisation program to improve business performance. They engaged the vendor Environmental Resources Management (ERM) to help define key value driver trees for S&SD and support their integration team during an operational review.

ERM facilitated workshops to select high-impact value drivers and developed detailed trees and self-assessment questions for areas like energy, water, and safety. During a pilot operational review, ERM's support helped Anglo American identify that operating profit could be enhanced by up to 10% by reducing waste handling and absenteeism. The review also identified measures to reduce a future carbon liability representing circa 5% of operating profit.
