A Entrust Case Study
The United States Government needed a cost-effective, secure alternative to the traditional passport book for the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). The goal was to give border agents fast access to citizenship, biographical, and biometric data while protecting participants’ identities, preventing fraud, and avoiding the inconvenience of requiring a full passport for frequent cross-border travelers. Entrust helped support this effort with secure card issuance technology and related services.
Entrust implemented a highly secure passport card program using long-range RFID, laser engraving, and other layered security features, along with card issuance, delivery, and envelope insertion systems plus manufacturing efficiency software. The solution was deployed and began supplying passport cards in February 2008, delivering a durable and secure credential for the U.S. Government and supporting faster border processing with improved fraud resistance.
